In Celebration of 7/20

(Matt Heffernan performing the 7/20 blunt. Photo by Riley Snyder.) The cork 720 blunt grab is the quintessential ski trickthe hallmark of our sport. But they are not as essential and iconic as the 7 blunt. Its the ideal combination of complexity and simplicity. When done well it looks beautifully simple, when done poorly it looks complex. At fourteen, the 7 blunt seemed to me about as simple as going to the moon....

La Nina Returns!

NOAA Predictions: La Nina has a 70-80% chance of arriving this winter. In addition, resorts in Ohio and Pennsylvania are also to receive above average precipitation. This year is also set to be relatively average for East Coast resorts, with slightly warmer temperatures. Pacific Northwest: Colder and wetter weather will lead to a great year for the pacific northwest. North East: An average winter in the form of precipitation, but slightly warmer....

New Lifts 24/25 (canada)

It will be replacing an aging high speed quad that serves mostly blue cruisers. It will be transformed into a high speed six seater. This is Whistlers fourth new high speed lift in three years. This is replacing the blue skyride/tram and bringing them back up to full capacity. It will lessen lines from the parking lot to get onto the mountain. In addition, it will make it easier to get to the bottom parking lot....

Where to Ski (after the 4th)

After the 4th there are currently three resorts open in North America with terrain parks. Of course there are plenty of unofficial hike to terrain (tuckermans). Of the three two are lift served. First on the list is the only outdoor lift serviced year round resort in America. Timberline is on the palmer snowfield on Mount Hood. They have a full halfpipe, a huge terrain park and temperatures of 58 currently....

WE DON’T APPRECIATE LOCAL SKI SHOPS ENOUGH

My guess wouldnt be Curated.com. It’s time we come together to support these local shops like our very lives depend on it. Its time for that to change. For example, brands are often discovered at trade shows or by sales reps visiting shops. In short, this is why brands that focus on profit over people continue to succeed in the industry. How do we do this? My solution is to create an online marketplace that only indie ski brands and shops can join....

Newschoolers is now INDEPENDENT

Newschoolers was founded in 1999 and sold to corporate America in 2007. It has been surviving mergers and acquisitions ever since. And yet, twenty-five years later, were still here as a cornerstone of ski culture. The staff of NS are all still skiing as hard as our variously tortured bodies allow. The members, the athletes, the brands… even the staff. I could hardly ever make all sides happy, says@Mr.Bishopof his tenure at NS....

Plastic Paradise

Copenhagen in the summertime is a pretty special place to be. The setup got an upgrade and even a mini swimming pool and the crowd was loving every second. Each team features two riders, who hit the course simultaneously. Lastly, hometown heroes Jakob Ebskamp and Isabella Tvede got weird and technical on all features. Ultimately, the competition was extremely tight with only a few points separating the top three. Team Norway were so close to bringing it home this year but Team Sweden is just unstoppable....

A new start for Willamette Pass Resort in Oregon

A picture of the proposed development. I’m sorry it’s pixelated, newschoolers just made it lower res. If you’d like a higher res then just message me. The highway does not have stop signs, nor crossings and it is very dangerous for guests. I might have a better picture just let me know if you’d like to see it. There is a form for feedback that will be published, I assume, soon athttps://www....
