Jossi Wells Wins Comps Without Actually Winning

Jossi Wells is the epitome of free skiing. We know all too well that the judges have a pretty specific criterion they are looking for. But with Jossi being the way he is; this doesnt phase him. Unfortunately for him, being the fan favorite doesnt always translate to standing atop the podium. But fortunately for us, were left with the footage: the stuff of legend. All blacked out and hood over the helmet, mobbing down the pipe....

The Weakend: XXX, Candide, Torin, Wizard Tricks

The tower drop at the beginning is beyond stupid but the rest was kind of cool I guess. And all the rest of the week’s highlights came in audiovisual format. Chief among them was The Bunch dropping the movie from their most excellent Indian adventure. The film is one of my favourite bits of ski media I’ve seen in a long time.Watch it! TGP Volume Six anyone (Vol.5 below, you know you want to watch it again)?...

HOW TO K-FED ON SKIS

Then unwind/spin hard while doing the swop and just land on the rail and continue the rotation. Flat boxes are also good. Warm up with some FS Swops to Switch. Lock/Scissor the feet a bit and jump. Just twist the feet 180 while the upper-body is pointing towards the landing. This way of doing it is great for Super Fed. Try doing this both natural and unnatural and see what works the best for you....

On The Come Up: Paddy Flanagan

On The Come Up is a series in which we highlight an up and coming skier each week. Some of you may recognize them but for many, the name wont ring a bell. Able to spin easily 100 laps a day at some parks, hes putting the sticks to good use. The guy may be small, but he packs a heavy punch. If you havent yet, watching his 2016 street part is a must....

Crested Butte Shut Down Monday Because of Too Much Snow

Cover- Skier: Tom Runcie // Photo: Dave Kozlowski Photography // January 9th, 2017 Crested Butte, located just outside of Gunnison in Western Colorado was forced to shut down operations Monday after receivingtoo much snow. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPDseqtDfFu/?taken-by=skicrestedbutte The resort had a whopping 47 inches of snowfall last week, and the late Sunday Storm brought 18 more inches by Monday afternoon. With a combination of the wet snow causing avalanche danger in steeper areas of the resort, combined with lift issues (then mechanics getting sleds stuck on their way to fix said issues)- it was safe to say the mountain needed a time-out from the madness....

Tell a Friend Tour Killington 2017

Photos: Dan Brown On long drives sometimes the dotted white highway lines can get hypnotic. Well, not just another stop. He promised something new, and Newschoolers was heading down to check it out. And while it’s not huge purse compared to some events, it’s not pennies either. Put it this way: it was more than anyone had on them walking into the day. Understanding the value of this competition requires understanding a bit about Andy Parry....

The Weakend: Hood Crew, Wolferman, Masi

Everyone is absolutely on top of the game but I’ve yet to be convinced Dollo is human. Magnus wins the invite announcement prize though. But my first choice is a no brainer. The Hood Crew dropped their full movie and it was everything you wanted and more. People are so stoked on it that even the trailer alone made the Month’s top rated videos. If you somehow haven’t watched this, watch it now....

Introducing A Different Type Of Competition

Whether you love them or loathe them, competitions in skiing are struggling. There are signs the whole concept of progressing a career through competition is falling apart from the bottom up. “Who cares?” I hear you ask and more importantly “why do you care? You hate comps anyway”. As that exhibition, I feel they should represent contemporary skiing. Enter Andy Parry, opinionated and outspoken but undeniably down for the grassroots of the sport....

Freddie Grann on Skipaint and Life

Short but sweet, it holds weight. Listen to the man! First off, the ski painting was ill! How long was that in the works? Thank you, glad you liked it! I recorded it last spring. But things must be allowed to take time sometimes. Life in overall I guess. I often think of one thing and end up with something completely different. Or are they one in the same for you?...
