Red Bull Cold Rush: Big Mountain

A high ceiling and good light meant that the big mountain portion of the competition was a go-ahead. Elsewhere people stood in bunches, eyes on the ridgeline. Most of the competitors in Run 1 chose Spilt Milk. Angel Collinson charged the entire face without checking any of her speed.

Saying Goodbye To Somebody You've Never Met

I never met Dave Mirra, never shook his hand, never watched him ride. I never walked up to him and said hello, yet I find myself struggling to say goodbye. It’s amazing how much of an impact somebody can have upon you without any personal interaction. I grew up messing around on my bike. Before I was ever a die hard park rat in the winter time, I was deep into bmx....

Seeking Nirvana

This is the mountain village of Whistler, 675m above sea level. Forested with old growth fir and cedar. An important black bear habitat. Criss-crossed by deep valleys making way to endless glaciers. There are few paved roads but instead many miles of intersecting logging roads and dirt trails. It is an El Nino year. A difficult task, travelling the unchartered terrain, requires the groups combined wits. Only persistence and a spot of luck will reward success....

Skiers Cup Day 2

Simply put, the Mora Banc Skiers Cup is the best contest I’ve ever been to. I can only hope it grows and grows. Markus Eder floating one out. Logan Pehota steezing out a Cork 7. Nick McNutt threw down a trademark stylish run to see off Bene Mayer. Markus Eder had a super stylish and technical run to see off Grant Howard. All this left the score 4-4 for BC Slope and Europe leading 13-11....

John18061806 sharing his thoughts on the matter. I’ll finish this short rant by sharing thoughts from the community. “So happy Jossi walked away with the win. brookepotter “Step 1- Put millions of $$$ into an event. Step 2- Force all skiers to compete in dangerous conditions. Step 3- Watch them crash, straight air, or get injured. The bills have to be paid, but this is a very slippery slope....

Mora Banc Skiers Cup: Big Mountain

But they put on one hell of a show regardless. The teams lining up at the peak. In the red corner, North America. In the blue, Europe! Big straight airs up top and a smooth three off one of the medium drops at the bottom. Probably run of the day. Good vibes after the first run. Nico had a clean, stylish run with a cool windlip wallride up top but couldn’t match Parker....

X Games 2016 Men's Slopestyle Results

So the bad weather that pretty much killed big air last night was looming over slopestyle again today. On that note, did somebody hire a monkey with ADD to button mash the transitions between camera angles/events/stories? Alex Bellmare crashed final hit, Evan McEachran lost a ski on the takeoff of the final jump. I’m still in Andorra so I missed the next however many runs for fucking Snowboard Cross. Goepper had a nuts rail section, up top but was less than clean on the jumps....

X Games Big Air

Its kind of hard to imagine that no one would come up with a backup plan. But, skiing is at the mercy of the elements, and sometimes thats the way it goes. These people have a projector and a fine sound system, and the live stream is crisp. Maybe itll be a low-rotation contest after all. Rookie Fabian Boesch throws the first dub. He throws the first triple too. The crowd seemed to enjoy Henriks dub rodeo 12 safety more, however....
