Jackson Hole’s 50th Anniversary was this past Saturday, December 19th, and it (literally) went off with a bang. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has received over two feet of snow over the past seven days, and to accompany early morning dynamite the resort set off a spectacular fireworks show Saturday evening to celebrate 50 years. https://www.facebook.com/jacksonhole/photos/a.95822103041.87612.24718308041/10153413673083042/?key in=3&theater The resort also celebrated with thegrandopening of the Teton Lift (READ: New Teton Lift at Jackson Hole Opens December 19th)....

Ski Towns and Big Companies

Is there any aspect of ski-town living that corporations cant touch? Not that they couldnt, if they wanted to, thats not really worth debating. Take for exampleAnheuser-Buschs recent acquisitionof Breckenridge Brewery. Thats not to say that, at the ground level, things are likely to change drastically in Breck. Life will probably go on as it was. It doesn’t belong toyouin quite the same way. More colours, less corporations Maybe I just need to move off the grid....

Revelstoke Has a Terrain Park

Photos: Ian Houghton People have been pushing for a terrain park at Revelstoke Mountain Resort for some time. Until now, that is. Pat’s a former park supervisor at Big White and he’s in charge of Revelstokes brand new setup. The jump line just expanded to five, including a 30-foot booter. And these are, of course, just the beginnings. That Revelstoke has added this new aspect to their hill means a few things....

The times they are a changin'

For years I haven’t heard the words ‘after-bang’ said in the commentary of a slopestyle run. And I think it’s awesome that Jossi makes the more serious side of skiing more relaxed and goofy. We need more of that. We need to bring back the whole steezed out arm swing that was all the rage back in 2010. But Jossi Wells isn’t the only dude bringin back the whole ride away....

'Introducing' Taylor Lundquist

I met Taylor back in September, at IF3. I think that says a lot about a person. Less than a week later, I had the edit below in my inbox. Watch it, read her words and pay attention, this girl is part of the future. https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/801845/Private-Video-on-Vimeo What’s up Taylor! You’re hot off your second big competition win at R2R in Killington. So tell me a bit about you, where you’re based, what you’re stoked on etc....

Half Pipe Skiing is Dying, We Should Do Something

Half pipe skiing is cool. While many mountains invest more and more in parks, less and less is being invested into half-pipes. This is the first time I ever saw a lot of halfpipe skiers. “Pipe skis” thats something that will cost a lot. It certainly is not necessary for dropping into the 12 or 15 foot pipe at your local hill. A big thing I didn’t expect in regards to watching the half pipe skiers training was the coaches....

The Return of Throwback Thursday: Clownschool.

Hello again and welcome to Throwback Thursday, my personal take on skiing’s golden age. After another hiatus this series is back once again. This time, for good. Now, I won’t lie. A lot of clownschool was before my time. How did Clownschool come about? What was the first clown school edit? In the fall of 2007, Kevin Steen created clownschool. Here is a pretty classic first year edit by Kevin called Nov!...

The Style Survey

Originally published as a flip book in August of 2014 The Style Survey chronicles definitions and analysis of the abstract conception of “style” in skiing, from the perspective of the skiers themselves.

A Short And Probably Inacurate History Of How Skiing Was Ruined

1862 - First Ski Jumping Contest Held In Trysil, Norway. The core sport of skiing is ruined. 1950 - Aerial skiing begins. 2014 - Slopestyle skiing enters the Olympics and goes fully mainstream, in efforts to forever ruin the sport. 2015- Jesper Tjader’s ruins skiing with edit of circus tricks 2016 -???? So skiing is pretty much ruined. Have no fear kids! Snowboarding was ruined from the start! Since snowboarding already blows, the only think you have to worry about being ruined is your future....

Ducking the Rope: Funner Than You

You guys weren’t planning on ducking that rope were you? Heff said very seriously. They both shook their heads no, to which Heffy replied, Why the fuck not? Its official, radder-than-you is out and funner-than-you is in, and its just as annoying. Gone are the days of proving how rad and core you are. Skis are shrinking, segments are being filmed inbounds again, and people are pretending to not care....

Snapchat Critique: Pay Attention in School

Thanks to everyone who tuned into the Dew Tour Live-Stream to watch Doug Bishop talk about stuff. We appreciate it, really, we do. We had a great time skiing, watching skiing and all of the shenanigans on the side. Flabongoing in Leshs plane was pretty fucking cool. We get it, we were fucked up last night. Armada Presents SNOWCIETIES Ep. 3 'Riksgränsen'

https://vimeo.com/147908571 The third and final instalment of Armada’s Snowcieties web series is something truly special. Riksgransen has one of the worlds greatest and weirdest ski cultures, a bastion of the free in freeskiing. I actually saw an early cut of this episode which focused more heavily on the JP Memorial. If you haven’t already watched the video, scroll back up top and check it out now.

Dew Tour Men's Slopestyle Final Results

The last ski event to run at this year’s Dew Tour was Men’s Slopestyle. Would the judges factor rails in the scores properly for once? Run 1: Right out of the gates, Oystein Braten put down THE generic slopestyle run. Spin on, spin off + 4 ways dub 10/12 setting 86.4 as the benchmark. It’s good to see people landing their runs though, a nice change from semis/pipe. Jesper bobbled but he did do a blender switch dub 10, does that count as borderline interesting?...
