Get Paid by Newschoolers!

The obvious center of Newschoolers what holds it together, what gives it life is its community. These were concrete examples of how, with some support and money, people could really flourish. This is a skiing site after all, so here is some skiing. Not only does this support the people who are creating new content, it actually helps create better content. If that happens, even NS users who don’t make content will gain from this program....

TR: Togwotee Pass

The girl that I am on my first sled trip, gotta pose. Never take off your Beacon. The ski down wasn’t very long, in fact after the hike it felt like nothing at all. I think that’s how it goes sometimes. Another ~25 minutes of digging and we were able to pull it out and ride back to our car.

How Vail Resorts is taking over the World and why you shouldn't care.

But is it as bad as critics have made it out to seem? Personally I’m not convinced. Skiing has always been exclusive, an expensive often decadent pass time reserved for white middle class suburbanites. And now Vail Resorts have made taking advantage of their ever expanding empire as affordable as ever. words - J. van Dyke

Going to the Tippity Top: Mount St Helens

It’s 2AM and I’m crammed into the back of a Subaru with another dude. We’re here to climb Mount St Helens. To say this trip has some unknowns is an understatement. James and I just got touring setups at the beginning of this season. I’ve never even seen this mountain before, let alone walked up it. Yeah, there are definitely some variables at play here. We were one sketchy, out of control crew in the best way possible....

Skiing on Sewage: Resorts Use Treated Wastewater for Snow Cannons

No one recommends you eat yellow snow, but would you ski on it? It gives us a future. Though the project continued, the issue is not entirely settled. The suit has not yet been filed. “We followed that case closely for the industry. In our view, and with proper education, there should be use of reclaimed water for snowmaking. Water is only becoming more scarce, and the US Environmental Protection Agency condones such reuse....

Why Quads Are Not The End Of The World As We Know It

Triples and quads are going to be a real factor for people competing at the highest level. At the bigger events like Xgames big air, we will see these tricks unleashed. This realization has sparked fear, and caused some of these pros to send out a backlash against quads. This backlash however isn’t much different than something seen in MotoX freestyle when the backflips came in. In the early 2000s the backflip was a game changer in freestyle motorcross....

Backyard Competiton. JCK Ski and Snowboard.

There are many backyard set-ups out there, but none are quite the same as JCK. JCK has three drop-ins, two for the main park and one for the extra park. Now we are stocked on rails, we even have a 20ft urban rail. This year was our second annual JCK backyard competition, and Minnesota was lacking in snow. We hoped and prayed for snow, and it came, well, only an inch....

David Wise Speaks Out Against Quads and Spin To Win

Essentially the same landing, haha. There is no question that incredibly high levels of difficulty and danger WILL make a sport shrink. Many people say the same about halfpipe, and I respect that. To each, his own. I want as many people to experience that as possible. Unquestionably yes, I could. That might sound arrogant, but it is true. I have been competing in pipe at a high level for most of my life....
