A beautiful bluebird, insanely crowded day was a perfect opportunity to try out the BCA beacon park. Paul and I through several mock scenarios, including multiple burials. I gave him my beacon and let him at it. His time would put most backcountry “experts” to shame. Imagine now how much that would be intensified if it was real and your friend was dying. Under three minutes is a good goal for a single burial....

We recently contacted the Strobist, David Hobby, to do an interview for our readers here at APS. In 2008, it become impossible to balance the demands of the site with a full-time job. My favorite was always college football. But I also really enjoyed shooting prep and rec sports for the pure passion that was there. Issue is mostly power. So you have to use them to tweak the light rather then overpower it....
Our first night we spent at the Captain Cook Hotel. The hotel is filled with the history of cooks voyages and circumnavigations of the earth. It is also filled with comfortable beds and great views of the downtown. Girdwood is 30 miles away and that is where our plan is to spend the rest of this trip. Alyeska Resort was nice enough to outfit the whole TGR crew with Season passes!...

Yesterday was a good day. Time to pack up, my plane leaves in 16 hours. This is actually all the speed we got. Stupid plan = Good times! It takes zero effort to feel like 12 again. Interesting field study follow-up to Luke’s pit study in Benchmark. Skinned up in a fine winter storm day for a solo jaunt into EV. I was sure that I was going to be alone on this one. The pros and cons of solo missions can be debated endlessly. It is truly a special feeling. The two tracks headed out to and down the Tele line off Joint Point, and looked solid....
Ecuador 2001 I think most people would balk at doing a school trip with their high school. We left soon after school let out for holiday break in December. I don’t remember much about the long flight to Quito, but that’s probably for the best. As with any good high school trip, we were shepherded around the city with a tour guide. I regretfully look back at those moments, thinking that I should have paid more attention....
It is retarded how much snow that we have got got the last few few days. The sickest part is that is far from over. Last check of the equipment before the 06.10 am KLM-flight to Denver on Sunday morning. 2 weeks of the best park in the world, and Shred’n Breakfast.
