2020 Retrospective: Writing

Instead every time I sit down to pen an article for Newschoolers it feels like coming home. I love the skiers (and riders) on this site, and the community weve created. Theres no one Id rather write for. Thank you all for giving me that. Apparently, I wrote a lot last year. So here it all is. Ive put it together for myself as much as I did for you all....

Stinius Skjotskift Sends Corbet's

We didn’t know if it was possible to get a last minute entry. We got to work calling everybody we knew. Lucky for us someone had pulled out of the contest last minute… Stinius was in! https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/986651/Corbet-s-Couloir--Mute360-with-Stinius-Skjotskift “Stinius had never been skiing in the States, much less Jackson Hole. He didn’t seem to care, I guess he just wanted to catch some air. Day of the comp he was calm....

Henrik Harlaut Forum AMA: The Highlights

Henrik Harlaut needs no introduction. There aren’t enough superlatives in the world. Questions ranged from his favourite tricks, to explaining his barking. From his vegetarian diet, to his advice for upcoming skiers. Here’s what he had to say: _ @skierman_jack-Youve obviously got your signature style. Do you have to work at it or is it just naturally ingrained into your skiing? @Judefidel-What’s the most hyped you ever been to get a clip?...

Newschoolers Ski Trick Of The Year 2020: Vote Now

2020 was a hell of a year, in both meanings of the phrase. Before we even knew what a coronavirus, Newschoolers hosted our 20th Anniversary at Dew Tour in Copper Mountain. Ultimate Ski Vehicles Part 2

Well, for your post-holiday food hangover, here are five more. Vanity plates are acceptable when paired with tracks. So apparently slide in car campers used to be a thing. Wish they’d come back into style! Also, yes, I’m sorry, I accidentally drew this base graphic on the topsheets. It was a long day of painting. Tiny homes are whatever, tiny homes on the back of a Tucker Snowcat though…. The best bases ever?...

Are Beginners to Blame?

In the last week, four backcountry users died in avalanches over a two-day window. On December 18th a 41-year-old snowmobiler was buried in Wyomings Salt River Range. He was skiing solo and another party saw the slide debris and recovered his body. They were reported missing that night, and Search and Rescue recovered their bodies the next day. Our sincere condolences go out to all the friends, family, and partners of these victims....

Cassie Sharpe: Lockdown, concussions and finding the fun in skiing again

Words by Dani Baker. Cover Photo: Simon D’Artois. Good news: these are qualities that have proved to be beneficial as an athlete of her caliber. Sharpes short 2019/20 season was sandwiched between concussions. Sharpe was transparent in explaining the headspace she entered early-on as life halted and uncertainty arose. I kind of went into this poor me scenario and I dont think Im alone in that. So, I just put it out of my mind and tried to focus on what I could control....

Ultimate Ski Vehicles

Just drive the ol' ski bus up into the hills and stay there until the snow melts. You know it smells like farts and stale ski socks in there. Toyota trucks are cool, old Toyota campers are cool, and halftracks don’t get enough love. I feel like I’ve seen them inIndiana Jones, andThe Great Escape, but that’s it. Enter the tractor sled. Plenty of traction, and a great view from the saddle.

I Wear Sunnies On Pow Days

Something about that feels damn good! We make fun of things, trends, styles, people, etc. but at the end of the day we’re all out there for the same reasons. I just finished ripping some hot laps with the squad from work. Grab the squad and get after it! Honestly though, sometimes I don’t care. Maybe the section of the mountain that everyone wants to hit has a huge line....
