HG Skis Close Down Operations

https://www.instagram.com/p/BkTmuYxA1oW/?hl=en&taken-by=hgskis It’s hard to believe that it’s been 8 years since the HG Skis brand was founded, following four years of prototyping. It’s always sad to see any ski brand go out of business, but given the quality of their movies year after year, the announcement that HG are shutting up shop is a particularly bitter pill to swallow. One can only assume that the incredible videos they put out never translated in to sales, but one thing is for certain, those videos will ensure the brand is never forgotten....

Anthony Bourdain, Rest In Peace

What can you say when somebody as well written and traveled as Anthony Bourdain passes on? It was a shock. I came home from a long introspective drive from New Hampshire, and sat in the car. I was listening to music and thinking about all the bullshit in life. I hatched a plan to get away from it all. I pulled up a ticket to head to Bali, Indonesia and planned to leave as soon as tomorrow....

Alterra To Add Bull Mountain Alaska To Ikon Pass

Bull Mountain was created and run for many decades by Herbert “Papa” Muntz. Alterra Mountain Company’s John Major plans to purchase the mountain to add to the Ikon pass. Major announced that should the sale go through, Rock Rambis will be taking over as mountain manager. Alterra also plans on adopting employee uniforms to match their other resorts. Locals protested outside the south lot shortly after the news broke. “I was bummin' in a hole in the wall town in what is now called Utah....

Roofbox Reviews: Salomon/Atomic SHIFT Binding Review + Atomic Backland & Salomon QST99 Touring Ski Reviews

ReadPart 1 of this reviewto see a blood and guts technical dork-fest about the SHIFT. In this part 2 we’ll offer our impressions about the SHIFT. I say “we” because this review shares three perspectives. Tom is also bigger and a park and inbounds skier who occasionally tours. Some people will approach this from the perspective of powder-snob dorks who are used to Dyna-fiddling. Some will be the HULK- SMASH camp....

Skiing the Henrys

So what/where/who are the Henry Mountains? The Henry Mountains are the last mapped mountains of the lower 48. Its overlooked by most locals and tourists because nearby destinations offer world-class versions of the same outdoor activities. Theressomehiking andsomeclimbing and if you arrive at the right timesomeskiing too. Just, literally anywhere else would offer better options. As a self-proclaimed expert at laccoliths, my goal was to ski them. Thus began our five-hour drive south on the eve of my birthday....

X Games Norway's Big Air Final: Results and Recap

Earlier today, the X Games Norway jump played host to Men’s Qualification. 8 guys had to compete for just 2 spots, with the other 6 finalists pre-qualified. It seems super harsh to have that high a percentage of spots pre-qualified but it is what it is. No jam session this year either, with a more standard 3 run, best two count format. Bitching aside, the finals were a great show of how insane big air skiing has become....
