The X Games is in full swing with a full day of ski events going down this Saturday. It was time for the ladies to take to the stunt ditch and throw down. Bring back the athlete stories or something, anything but this, like. Anyhow, that aside, some rad skiing went down. Let’s see what happened. Yujin Jang rookie and first South Korean skier to perform at X Games kicked things off....
Until Rell Harwood stepped it up with the 7, that was. It was kinda halfway between a nollie 7 and nosebutter. Annie K sent an ollie 7, Tereza K had a dope nosebutter 5 and a handdrag 3. Olivia threw a steezy hand drag 5 and a huge flat 5 to take the lead. On the final run, Sarah H put down a zerospin shifty but it didn’t improve her score....
Commercial breaks and time restraints made for an interesting veiwing experience. But nonethless the riders got warmed up and put down some entertainment for those who tuned in. With the set in Ferdis hands, he quickly stepped up the ante of tricks. She instantly got the upper hand on Olivia with a nosetap-back 270 that Olivia was unable to replicate. The set then went back and forth after a couple missed safety slides and switch-ups not working out....
But one thing is for sure, it’ll be a crazy weekend full of wild skiing. What are we most hyped for? Knuckle Huck probably, but slopestyle looks good this year and the X courses always bring something interesting.
A crowd was gathered at the bottom of another huge big air jump. Miro Tabinellia dropped after for a style run putting down a bio 10 lead blunt but was scored low. Troy was the first to put down a dub in the style round - right dub 10 blunt. Birk Ruud laced up a left dub 10 safety, tweaked. A Hall and Forehand had the top spot with Bacher behind them....
We even noticed that some brands started to follow suit, and put out more fire content. Overall, it does feel like things are on the up for the first time in a minute. We’re not taking credit… correlation not causation… probably. There’s still a huge content hole in the ski industry though. Starting with… skiers are generic as hell. Find yourself a nice spot of open space where you could fully stretch out your legs. Take a 60-second rest between sets. Want more of a challenge? Keep your eyes out for her NS Originals dropping later in the season. Maggie Voisin filmed a banger of a part for Crescendo, raising the bar on BC jumps. But our panel was pretty unanimous on this one… The 2023 Female Skier Of The Year… Anni Karava....
Ive been on a few ski trips over the years but none quite like this one. Ill do my best to summarize some of the updates that I got to test out. If its anything like the 120 upgrade Im sure its gonna be sick. Chris Benchetler was kind enough to show me some of his paintings and where the graphics came from. Dumping over the head turns and zipping through trees on these were a whole lot of fun....
Laax Open is probably the biggest gathering of [comp] skiers and snowboarders on the planet. It all went down this weekend, and the final event was Ski Slopestyle. Semi-finals went down in some marginal conditions but a stacked field of riders made it through. She stomped a dub 10 on the final jump into a 5 on the pipe hit. Mathilde Gremaud then lifted the roof on both the commentary booth with an incredible run....
The local forerunners were a taster of things to come and the snow looked epic. Ariana Tricomi answered immediately, cleaning up her run too, and adding some flair. Jennica went to the moon on a 360 and narrowly didn’t ride it out. Ultimately Ari took the win because her second-best score was higher. The backflip to stall on the QP was dope too. Markus Eder put down the first dub 10 of the day but unfortunately fell on his last hit....
