GoGlove: Better Music Control on the Mountain

You’ve been there. Tearing down the slopes on a fresh powder run, listening to your favorite song. You stagger, you stop, ripping at your earbuds to make the noise stop. Your moment is ruined. GoGlove is that product. We took a thin glove liner and embedded sensors in each finger. A magnet in the thumb activates them when you tap your thumb to a sensor. We built GoGlove to allow you to control your music easier and better....

Foreign Affair's community

If you ever skied seriously, odds are you probably heard about Whistler. Where do you start? Is it all worth it? The amount of wealth circulating within the village is exhilarating. A mountain town truly led by tourist’s needs. …But what about us? The ones willing to thumb it cross country only to get here? The ones living in cars, sheds and tents? The ones who rely on the money they get from empties to pay rent?...

Freeride World Tour Q&A with Tom Winter

I think that the collegiate tour will bring a new dimension to the sport. That can only be good for those who are participating and good for the sport in general. Any plans for the Collegiate Big Mountain Tour to ever come east? -steezyjibber Right now I’m not aware of any discussions in that regard. Let’s keep our fingers crossed in that regard. What goes in to deciding where an event will be held?...

On Sunday, and Skiing Again

Grouse opened, and so did Saint Sauveur, and theres snow in the backcountry. On Sunday at St. Bruno it was hard not to get caught up in the fever. It manifests itself in the semi-frantic way in which skiers attack the terrain theyve been allowed access to again. Its the kind of feeling that also produces inflated metaphors and tedious hyperboles about skiing-as-raison detre. Somebody jeered at him from the back of the crowd and he moved on....

Southern Alchemy

https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/738675/Southern-Alchemy If Voluerz taught us anything, its that skiers and boarders can be friends. I have been the video intern at Camp of Champions for the past two summers. To answer the question once and for all, yes. In keeping with the local theme, all music used is from local artists. I’ve also written a script for batch processing the files and learned about developing for magic lantern. I think the results were worth it....

Photography Tips: Composition

That being said, it is important to keep composition in mind with every shot. First, I venture to familiarize myself with what Im shooting, and look for the best backgrounds. Other good ways to get a clean background are through lens choice and changing the angle of the shot. For example getting low with a wide angle lens often allows you to frame the rider against the sky. Next, confirm to keep context in your shots....

All Girls Shred and Pretty Faces Premiere

Friday saw the Pretty Faces Premiere Tour arrive at the Snowcentre. Not only was this a premiere night but the first girls freeski session held at Hemel. On the way there, I’ll admit I had my reservations. It was actually one of the busiest nights I’ve ever seen at Hemel. Top UK riders were on the slopes giving tips to the many beginners and first time freeskiers. I’m sure that many of those who turned up are now freeskiers for life....

Snow Show Stoke in Spokane

The Jam took place in conjunction with the Annual Snowlander Expo and Powderkeg Inlander Brew Festival. The Rail Jam kicked off in the breezeway of the Center with open practice. Here the ante was upped as the judges heckled and pushed everyone to progress. Friends and family lined the rails, all cheering on their favorite local riders. I guess that’s the nature of preseason rail jams.

Ski Moms are the Bomb!

“Worried mother syndrome” affects everyone regardless of age or ability. I was reminded of this a few weeks ago as I attended the Inspired Movie Premier in Spokane. Tanner Hall made a guest appearance and offered a few words on the passing of JP Auclair. I interviewed her in the crowded lobby, and discussed many of the same questions covered inLike a Lion. I have seen this sentiment echoed across the community....
