Oslo City

Back and forth, all the time. Yesterday was a long day, just as expected, with delayed flight and train to Oslo. Going straigth to the next skiresort in the Jib Ac tour tonight, Dombas. I guess this day would be pretty long too.

2/19/12 New York State…of mind

The procession down the groomed section of Poppyfields to 21 from Two Elk was endless. I made it through the human slalom, up and out and head back for a Mushroom Bowl revisit. Greybird and snow starting to fall, I found a cool low angle stumpline to bound around on. Here’s what I saw. A question for forensic psychologists, not EVI. Last day in Mushroom, back out to EV tommorow to check it out....

Baker and Seattle.

Because the snow was lacking in my Mt. Baker trip, most all I did was race the Banked Slalom and did some slush lapping. I spent 2 days in the city and had a great time.

Coaching at home turf

Today I got to do something fun, coach skiers from my homeplace, at my home-resort, Storlien. Stoked skiers in the storm. We were out all day kicking it! Fun day, all in all. Drove back home after skiing, and I am now on my way to the airport. See you in Oslo!

EVI Retraction/Report 2/20/12

Our first official retraction. It was bound to happen. I swore off Tweeners, but today I cracked. Although the accident happened two thousand miles away, the account resonates with every backcountry traveler. The world we hang out in is actually a small one. Experienced and using safe zones used for years. 100, 500 year cycles? Nice to hang out with some long time friends up top with no one else around....

Hungary ? Norway ? Sweden

Long day yesterday, again. Just crawled out of bed and had breakfast at Hotel Storlien at LeSki, in Storlien, Sweden. We had a mellow night in Budapest on Saturday night, as our flight was at 1150 this morning. Our flight was through Oslo before Trondheim. I got to spend two hours at home, repacking for the whole week before driving up to Storlien. Should be fun in the storm! Norwegians flight 1551 from Budapest to Oslo...

Lens Choice for the Best Shot

Think about compression, distance, and distortion.  What that means is that the elements will look closer. If you shoot with a wide lens up close to the athlete, the mountains will look particularly small.  This is a great method to incorporate more environment into the shot.  Shoot fairly close with a wide-angle and your subject still looks fairly big.  Move back a bit with the same lens if you want the subject to appear smaller....

Sick Bird 2/17/12

I arrived at the village this morning along with all twenty thousand of my closest friends. It is very hot in the kitchen and will most likely remain hot for the remainder of the season. We were greated by the pleasant site of an empty resort. We took a few moments to enjoy the Gore view and continued our way up. Our biggest concern was the low snow and the endless pits, covered logs and traps along the way....
