Today saw a banger contest under blue skies, with the lead changing all over the place. The ladies and men threw down in equal measure and got the season off to a great start. This earned her 85.25. Kelly put it down but it was lots of hits and variation but not much amplitude. The judges took their time but only gave her an 80. Kelly kept it clean and technical again, but some of the grabs went missing this time around....

Cover photo: Bucholz/FIS It was sick to see a FIS Big Air go down on a real mountain. That’s almost a ridiculous statement to have to make but mostly it’s scaffolding and ice these days. Poles should be mandatory for comps. Rules are generally best avoided, but in this case, it’s actually defining outcomes on occasion. Cindy, tindy, etc are not real grabs. They are just an inability to grab the ski accurately....

With this extra pocket money, they opted to hire a filmer. That filmers name was Bjorn Eklund. The film opens with a series of vistas scrolling across the screen. Each frame links with the next, creating the illusion that youre peering across an ever-changing yet singular horizon....
Switzerland in spring is hard to beat. Insane terrain, slushy snow, and warm weather down in the valleys. For the crew sustainability was at the forefront of planning. I’m very used to doing everything by train but the other boys werent. We had a lot of bags, a lot of skis, a lot of camera gear. Always jumping on and off trains. We did like one or two days per resort, so we were always moving, running for trains....
I’ve known Laurent for a while. I’ve lived in Switzerland for many years now and he, of course, is a local. We run into each other now and again, randomly and intentionally, to ski and at industry events. When Laurent told me at High Five Festival that he was starting a new brand, I was hyped. Laurent is a thoughtful skier, one of my favorite to watch. So instead of an interview, here it is in full....

Such a revelation required closer examination. But the rocker length is fairly symmetrical tip and tail. And while there is more splay in the tip, there is a lot of tail rocker splay too. Were in Vishnu/ON3P territory here, shape-wise. They feature sintered bases, plenty of fiberglass and interestingly, a poplar/polyurethane core. Edges are pretty standard (around the 2mm mark). The resulting ski feels stiff to hand flex, probably in the ballpark of the K2 Poacher....

Every day I click in and make a turn has typically been a memorable one. So, I spent every day after skiing writing them all down. Now Ill forever have those experiences to look back on. Maybe youre not sentimental about experiences and you just let your mind hold onto whatever pieces it can. If that system works for you thats fine. I for one dont want to remember the vague generalizations but rather the entire thing....
