The world of skiing is becoming bowled over by the introduction of the Big Air comp. I say introduction but we all know it’s been around for a while. It started off with 2 heats and five out of ten riders from the heats advancing to the finals. First up was PK Hunder, Kai Mahler, Jacob Wester, Gus Kenworthy and Elias Ambuhl. All riders were allowed two jumps with their total score from both creating a total to beat....
It was a winning run that was not only huge but technical at the same time. Taking the silver medal spot was wildcard Noah Bowman. Someone who was less than happy about it was Kevin Rolland. Final results: 1. David Wise – 93.00 2. Noah Bowman – 90.00 3. Torin Yater-Wallace – 89.66 4. Kevin Rolland – 89.33 5. Tucker Perkins – 88.33 6. Simon Dumont – 87.00 7. Mike Riddle – 80....
Wanted to clear something up about the I in EVI. Last year, we started this site with the intent of posting about our experiences in EV. Doing the avalanche education thing a little bit differently. They come for the movies, and stay for what little information we can impart. Maybe something more was necessary…on the ground observations BEFORE the slides happened. So, what then. Little did we know, but 2011 was a special year....
A simple and precise ski which inspires complete confidence, whatever the conditions, including in the air.
Decided to take a drive today, just to go eat at this back road spot called the Road Island Diner in Oakley, UT. I have driven by the diner a few times in the past being that it is so close to one of our favorite sled spots in the Uintas (no secrets revealed here). Today was the day, I drove all the way to Oakley just to get a club sandwich for lunch but it was worth it, so the jokes on you....
So this was my last day in USA and Colorado. Saturdays are crowded in Breckenridge so we went to ski Keystone. Allready on the bus to Keystone I was preparing for a scary day on the main jump-line. 1 straightair through the park and 1 switch 540 later, I was on it. I wanted to do a switch wobble 900 with a safety-grab. I figured that the 900 was impossible to to with the axis I first started off with....

It was like a dream. The pure, unaltered power of the magnificent sight filled his heart with vigor. The soft, winter breeze. The subtle scent of the pine trees. The sounds of muffled shifts. The unwavering rays of sunlight, reflecting upon his being with an unfiltered warmth. The snow was nearly indescribable that day. This gift from above, now crystallized under his feet, was almost unimaginable in its consistency. The terrain ahead of him was devoid of signs of life, yet filled to the brim with possibilities....
With one girl hot favourite I was putting my pay slip on her and luckily, it came through. Kaya Turski became the first woman to win 3 consecutive gold medals in Ski Slopestyle! Final results: 1. Before we get to the finals, we should probably talk about the eliminations first! Fighting for a place in the Winter X Games final, for anything, is no easy task. Elimination Results: 1. Nick Goepper – 93.33 2. Tom Wallisch – 92.33 3. Bobby Brown – 91.00 4. Andreas Hatveit – 89.00 5. Russ Henshaw – 88.33 6. PK Hunder – 88.00 7. Gus Kenworthy – 87.33 8. Alex Schlopy – 87....
Skied my Old Man’s run not noticing any new activity from the days tracks. The snow felt more supportive than it had been, but no guarantee of stability. Of course Tweeners was hit, but I won’t ski Tweeners agin this year. Just my own opinion on that. The East facing traverse to the lower trees were crusted from sunhit and uneventful. Felt like a spring day. Nice to take a break from the black flag conditions we have been experiencing....
