Alpine Weather: Colder Air & Light Snow This Weekend

Not expecting much snow with this storm, maybe a dusting on the mountain. With the gusty winds wind chills could make it feel even colder so dress appropriately this weekend. The cold front Wednesday night into Thursday also has a better chance at bringing accumulating snow to the mountain. Another ridge will move in to start the week of the 11th. This ridge could be flatter as the jetstream continues to push storms towards the Pacific NW....

Today was my first day not skiing since January 4th… I went down pretty hard yesterday rippin through some tight trees. Took me a while to gather myself to ski down, but I made it. Time to get on the mend!

Suzuki Nine Knights 2011 is cancelled

Freeski Event Suzuki Nine Knights cancelled due to lack of snowOberstdorf, 30.3.2011 ? For the first time in the three year history of Suzuki Nine Knights the event has to be cancelled. The feature itself required over 35,000 cubic metres of snow. This gave us the hope that we had the snow required to host the event.

3/25/11 El Terrible tree chute report

There were many recent downed soldiers, branches sticking out of the snow. Looking down the path, it look loaded. I decided to cut the left flank of the gully, over to a treed ridge. What I got was a sinking, submarining trip to the bottom of the snowpack about three feet down. My efforts to release my binding were met with more sinking and twisting with no binding release.
