Could Twin Tips Disappear?

Neon green with splashes of red. Motorcycles, palm trees, ski masks. The K2 logo resting confidently behind crosshairs. My first pair of twins, the 2008 Juvy. But, years after the golden age, twin-tips seem to be wavering slightly in popularity, why? In the 1997-1998 season, Salmon dropped the 1080, the first mass-market twin-tip ski for the newschool movement. Inspired by the bi-directional capabilities of the snowboard, the 1080 allowed riders to take off and land switch....

Real Skifi are known for their creativity on skis, but this is some next-level sh*t! The more you watch it, the more it blows your mind. Were still scratching our heads. Haha, I will admit that I may have googled “Tenet explained” after watching it!...

Home Town Lovin'

I was doing too much. By the time winter break ran out and I was headed back west, we were dating. (and in fact, 2 and a half years later we still are!) On one beautiful February pow day in the Grand Mesa backcountry, I hit a tree. To make a long story short I was practically bedridden for 2 weeks as symptoms would not let up. However, something happened that I had never really experienced....

Fixing a Blown Sidewall

So, I found a $100 pair of skis on Craigslist and finished the season on those. Note that I drilled the holes about an inch past the end of the cracked ABS. Once I had the ABS off, I cleaned out all of the fractured wood splinters. Git-Rot wicks into wood, and the more porous the wood is, the more Git-Rot can soak in. Since Git-Rot will continue to soak into the wood, I stayed and watched it for about 20 minutes....

How to progress.

On top of that, I couldnt cork or spin more than a 5. I landed cork 5s 7s 9s, switch cork 5s 7s, and misty 7. I want to start with rails. Rails you have to keep alive and have to practice a lot. Something that helped for me was hiking. On top of this, practice both ways. So if you land natural kfed, try unnatural. This way you get a lot more comfortable spinning and swapping both ways....

Sex and the Ski Tour

Disclaimer: This piece deals with adult themes (no shit). Also, youre on the internet, so I sure hope youre using discretion regardless. Skinning, and well, the other kind of skinning, share a lot of principles. So here we go. Look for enthusiastic consent, and communicate with anyone who is less than enthusiastic. Thats their call, and everyone else needs to respect it. The second part of this is that sexually, consent needs to be continued....

The Newschoolers Ski Test 2021

This year saw a landmark in Newschoolers 21+ year history and it involved a whole lot of skiing. For the first time, we ran our own ski test featuring the best of 21-22 product. We also requested forward mounting points, so we could ski them how we would ski them ourselves. And how you, our members would likely ride them. We sent the all-mountain skis on the infamous Delirium Dive at Sunshine to test their performance in steep terrain....

Why You Should (Or Shouldn't) Wear A Helmet

Cover Image: All helmeted up with nowhere to go. Before you say anything, yes, I know, the horse is already dead. Or, quite close, at the very least. And the horse sighs, desperately wishing the flogging would just end. Pinpointing the first historical usage of the ski helmet is a little tricky, although its catalyst is clear. Sertorellis death instigated change. Once helmetless racers donned various forms of leather helmets, which remained the standard for many years....

Sarah Hoefflin calls out event organizers for putting younger women at risk

It was simply too big for some of the younger riders who compete at this level. But the story actually started before the Big Air. “During qualification, the weather got really bad, so we only had one hour of practice. Because some skiers had done their first run, they agreed to do it for the second run. It was so sketchy. Honestly, it was just dangerous. Not just the girls, this is about the boys as well....
