Today is the end of my time working at Newschoolers. It’s weird typing that out as Newschoolers has been such a large part of my life. Thank you for the past 7.5 years of the best job I couldve asked for coming out of college. Thank you for all the incredible experiences, lifetime friendships, and so much more. This trip is when I knew I wanted to work for NS any way I could....

Skiing was a gift that was given to me. It’s not something that I earned, something that I inherently deserved. I’m trying to make the privilege of this sport exclusive. Everyone should be welcome. I’m not good at this. Let’s make skiing better for everyone. Not necessarily “easier”, not watered down, not sucked dry of any soul, but better. Skiing is a series of fun challenges that we never stop meeting and mastering....
The final World Cup of the season went down in Silvaplana, Switzerland this morning. The three run final with 20+ skiers is a lot of skiing and waiting for the casual viewer. The team at Corvatsch did a great job with clean rails and a variety of transition options throughout. The rail section in-particular looked pretty fun, especially with the QP between the top two features. The US Olympic qualification battle is clearly going to be crazy with 5 US men making the finals today....
In the last few seasons, weve seen good ski media continue to die off. Great mags shut their doors, crappy sites baited our clicks, and skiing continued its eternal commodification. Skiing sucks in a lot of ways, and Newschoolers reflects that. Skiing is sexist, racist, ableist, the list goes on. And Newschoolers is a community of skiers, many of whom check those boxes. The internet is a shitty place, full of shitty people, saying shitty things....
Newschoolers has gender problems. Women endure harassment and if they make it and decided to stick around it feels almost like a club. It Starts With Harassment Women Owe You Nothing I made like two points, I get it. Lets start talking about how we can improve this site so it feels approachable to any gender. That said, women owe you nothing. We do not need to prove we throw down to belong, nor feel embarrassed if were just learning....
I don’t expect you to read the whole way through, but thank you if you do. Another year of grinding out school work early in the morning to make it to the hill by lunchtime. Another year of throwing myself off cliffs and rails and jumps my body would later regret. Another year of cold and wet drives home in an old subaru; the heat still doesn’t work. All this for the love of skiing....

The weather was less than optimal at the beginning of the event. However, the sun came out for the second two runs which clearly improved things. She’s not going to struggle to hit Olympic criteria. Definitely the run of the day. Zoe Atkin - Strong technical run. She seemed surprised to end up fifth and it did look better than it was scored. Comp skiing returned to Aspen for the second weekend running with a rare World Cup. The weather was certainly better than it was for World Champs but still fairly windy at times. It is, however, understandable in this strangest of winters. He was sitting up and waving after a significant course hold, so hopefully he’s ok. But those crashes are the worst to watch. Rails were clean but possibly not as technical as some of the other ladies but it didn’t matter....
As patrol sweeps the hill, park crew works their way down for their last lap of the day. Click out just above a feature, scrape it, rake it, move on to the next. Theres a brief respite for a few hours in the early morning. The sun is just starting to peek over the back ridge of the mountain when the lifts start spinning. The park is cold and icy when the crew gathers in their shack....
