FIS World Championships '21: Slopestyle Results and Highlights

Saturday morning saw the World Championships Slopestyle go down in Aspen, CO. Two of our favorites to watch but it was a strange scoring. Dope as fuck from the first run. Charged the rails and stomped the jumps. Her jump tricks lacked tech compared to the other ladies but she looked stylish and clean. Scored super low for some reason but possibly deserved a podium. First big final and kept it solid all day long, looks like a start of the future....

FIS World Championships '21: Halfpipe Results, Recap and Highlights

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it’s been a crazy year for comps. Luckily, Aspen is used to hosting the world’s best comp skiers and so pulled things together. Pipe should probably just be run at night though. He took a huge crash on his first run and got back up in his indomitable style. The man is a beast. _ Highlights: Women’s Eileen Gu. Stomped all three runs with laser precision....

From the Guest Bedroom: Full Send Skis

I didnt want to interview people and report things. I wanted to cover the more touchy-feely side of skiing that I think sometimes doesnt get enough attention. But sometimes theres a great story sleeping in your guest bedroom and you just have to cover it. That was the case withFull Send Skis.I first became aware of Full Send last winter viaa thread on newschoolers. And my initial impression was some kid in South Dakota is making really pretty skis....

Hardcore Ski Collector

Few days later I got a message from someone local here in Montreal looking to purchase them right away. We began to chat and I quickly realized this guy knew what he was looking for. Turns out he has over 44 pairs - 30 of which are made by Armada. Meet Sam Fex, 26 year old from Saint-Polycarpe, Quebec. What do you like so much about Armada? JP Auclair and the whole Armada team were also a big influence for me growing up....

Chairlift Screamers

To all of you who hoot and holler, scream do a backflip, hit that cliff. To those that heckle with kind, comedic amusement. When you’re going up the lift it can give you a break on those full on days. As skiers we generally fall in the “put me in coach” box. We want to be out there hitting the features, dropping that cliff. Something about it makes a difference....

Talent, or skill?

In my life, Ive been privileged to make turns with some pretty decent skiers. Its something Ive run into over and over, in different contexts throughout my life. By definition, skill is something you work at, something you build. Skill is acquired through experience. Talent on the other hand is what you already have, not something you build. Its an innate aptitude or ability. Some people are inherently more coordinated than others, more athletic....

I Haven't Crashed Once This Season

Truth is, I shot the basketball once. And then I continued to happily avoid the basketball for the rest of our games that year. When I say that I havent crashed once this ski season, I mean something similar. Growing up, my friends and I used to take chances on a daily basis. In those moments your vision narrows. Your heart feels as though it might burst, and the blood gushes and thunders in your ears....

A Few More Reminders

The last few weeks have been terrible. We’ve lost a lot of great people. All I can do is mourn them and paint. These aren’t indictments of folks who push themselves in the mountains, or imperatives for everyone to follow. They jolt me, remind me of the potential consequences of my actions. These seven posters are all designed to print out on an 11x17" piece of paper. They do well as stickers too....
